**Maarja Pärtna** is an Estonian writer, translator, and editor. She has published six poetry collections and studied English language and literature at the University of Tartu, where she also completed a master's degree in comparative literature.

Her writing explores socio-ecological themes, connecting personal experience with the wider climate and ecological crisis. Raised in northeastern Estonia, a region profoundly shaped by industrial extraction, Pärtna writes about collective trauma, urban nature, environmental destruction under growth-driven economic systems, and forms of resilience, solidarity, and care.

Her acclaimed poetry trilogy—*Vivarium* (2019), *The Living City* (2022), and *On the Edge of Uprising* (2024)—examines ecological devastation alongside questions of memory, belonging, and social responsibility. Alongside her poetry, she writes essays on environmental and cultural issues and has translated works by Kathleen Jamie, Margaret Atwood, Edward Said, and Robert Macfarlane into Estonian.

Maarja Pärtna has received several major literary awards, including the Cultural Endowment of Estonia Poetry Award, the Gustav Suits Poetry Prize, and the Juhan Liiv Poetry Prize. In 2024, she was appointed City Writer of Tartu and has participated in numerous international UNESCO Cities of Literature collaborations.
